The Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks came up just short Monday night, falling 4-2 to the Anchorage Glacier Pilots.

In a game dominated by pitching through the first six innings, the Chinooks found themselves trailing 1-0 entering the seventh before finally breaking through offensively. Ty Beck opened the rally with a double, Drew Hurst followed by reaching safely to put two runners aboard. Reese Vassar delivered the biggest hit of the night for The Chinooks, lining a two-run double to score both Hurst and Beck and give the Chinooks their first lead of the game at 2-1.

Anchorage answered in the top of the eighth inning, capitalizing on timely hitting to reclaim the lead. Zeb Henry ripped a two-run double to plate Jake Dahl and Antonio Gianni, putting the Pilots back in front 3-2. Moments later, Ryne Dodson tripled to right field to bring home Henry and extend the Anchorage lead to 4-2.

Despite opportunities late, the Chinooks were unable to generate another rally against Pilots reliever Cody White, who worked the final two innings to earn the win.

On the mound starter Drew McCartney tossed three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out one. Jack Florence followed with 1.1 innings of relief and surrendered only one run while recording three strikeouts. Trey Harper kept the Pilots in check during a strong 2.2-inning outing, allowing just one hit and striking out three.

The Chinooks managed just five hits on the evening but stayed within striking distance throughout the game. Though the result didn't go their way, the Chinooks pitching staff had another stellar showing, something promising for the rest of the summer. They will be right back in Anchorage to face the Bucs on Tuesday.
