Freeman’s Homer Leads Chinooks in 10-2 Victory

CHUGIAK, AK – The Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks (10-22) improve to 2-3 against the Matsu Miners (19-12) after a 10-2 victory Tuesday night at Lee Jordan Field.

 

Michael Barker (2-2) earned his second win of the season after throwing five innings of two-run baseball. Michael allowed seven hits, two walks, and received four strikeouts in his outing.

 

His brother, Corbin Barker (0-2), finished the final four innings on the mound for the Chinooks. Corbin surrendered a single walk to the Miners, while striking out six on the mound.

 

Both of the Chinooks wins against the Miners this season have resulted in 10-2 victories. The Chinooks began their offensive burst in the bottom of the second inning. Haden Keller hit his second triple of the season and scored on Daniel Freeman’s first home run of the season for a 2-1 lead.

 

Two innings later, the Chinooks would plate two more runs for a 4-2 lead. Ethan English leadoff the inning with a double and moved up to third base after two walks to Daniel Freeman and Trevor Cho. With the bases loaded, Dylan Gardner drew the third straight walk to give the Chinooks the lead 3-2. Daniel Freeman scored on a wild pitch for the fourth run in the inning.

 

In the fifth, the Chinooks added an insurance run after Mason Corbett reached by an error from the second baseman. He then stole third base and came home on a pass ball.

 

The Chinooks send eight batters to the plate for a four-run seventh inning. Pate Fullerton, Jess Davis, and J Paul Fullerton leadoff the inning with three consecutive walks. Mason Corbett picked up a two-run double to the right-field wall to bring in Pate and Davis. Haden Keller brought in the third run on a single up the middle before Daniel Freeman brought in the ninth run of the game on a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

 

Dylan Gardner brought in the tenth run of the game on a walk, two stolen bases, and a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning.

 

Every hitter for the Chinooks reached base in the game, totaling 10 walks and seven hits. The Chinooks hit for the cycle as a team for the first time this season. Mason Corbett and Ethan English doubled, Jess Davis and Haden Keller tripled and Daniel Freeman hit his first home run of the season.

The Chinooks are back in action against the Miners July 17 at Lee Jordan Fie
