Great Pitching Helps Chinooks Split with Miners

CHUGIAK, AK – The Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks (12-25) split double-header day with the Matsu Miners (22-14) on a 2-1 loss in game one and a 3-1 win in game two.

 

Game 1: Chinooks 1, Miners 2

Tyler O’Clair (1-5) made his fourth start for the Chinooks and pitched six innings. O’Clair had one of his best pitching outings of the season with eight strikeouts, four hits, and two runs. Daniel Freeman (1-1) closed out the final inning and allowed a single hit for the Miners.

 

Paddy McKermitt scored the only run for the Chinooks on the day in the bottom of the third inning. McKermitt reached base on a bunt single and was moved over to third base with two outs in the inning. He then stole home safely for his fourth stolen base of the season.

 

Game 2: Chinooks 3, Miners 1

Michael Barker (3-2) earned his first complete game one for the Chinooks this season in the 3-1 victory. He pitched seven innings allowing one run on seven hits, a walk, and three strikeouts.

 

The Chinooks scored all three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jess Davis leadoff the inning with a walk and then J Paul Fullerton moved him to third after reaching by an error. With runners on first and third, Ethan English tied the game on a single to left field. With one out, Daniel Freeman and Pate Fullerton would follow English’s lead on singles to the outfield to bring in the final two runs.

 

The Chinooks are back in action on Monday against the third-place Pilots at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage.
