Chinooks Fall to Miners in Extras
Jun 16, 2026

The Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks erased a two-run deficit late , but Mat-Su pulled away in extra innings to claim a 5-4 win.

Mat-Su struck first in the opening inning on an unearned run before adding a solo home run by Alexander Pearson in the second to take a 2-0 lead. The Chinooks answered in the fourth when Kai Butler reached on a single, stole third base and eventually scored on a Miners error to cut the deficit in half.

Starting pitcher Oliver Adams kept the Chinooks within striking distance, turning in a strong six-inning outing. Adams allowed just three hits and two runs while working around four walks to give Chugiak a chance to rally. The Chinooks bullpen followed with 2 scoreless innings from Qade Carrington before Jack Florence took over in the eighth.

The Chinooks finally pulled even in the seventh inning. Blake Allen singled and moved into scoring position before Austin Young delivered a clutch RBI double to left-center field, scoring Allen and tying the game at 2-2. Young's hit capped another productive night at the plate for the Chinooks catcher, who finished 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs.

With the game tied entering extra innings, Mat-Su capitalized on the international tiebreaker rule in the 10th. The Miners pushed across three runs on a pair of RBI hits and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to take a 5-2 advantage.

The Chinooks refused to go quietly. Starting the bottom of the 10th with JD Wolff on second, Young again came through with an RBI double to score the automatic runner. Young later crossed the plate on a wild pitch to bring the Chinooks within one run. However, the comeback effort ended when the Miners turned a game-ending double play.

Young led the Chinooks offense with two doubles and two RBIs, while Phoenix West tripled and reached base three times. Kai Butler had 2 hits, and the Chinooks aggressively pressured Mat-Su on the bases, stealing five bags during the game.

The chinooks finish a three game series against the Miners at their place Wednesday night in Palmer.
