Chinooks power past Goldpanners in Scout Showcase
Scout Showcase Exhibition Game 1
This Friday through Sunday is the Alaska Baseball Scout Showcase. Each of the five ABL teams, plus the Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks, will play seven-inning exhibition games, all of them at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage. The games and stats don't count in league standings, but they provide an opportunity for professional scouts to observe and evaluate the college players who are spending the summer in the Great Land. The Chinooks' opening exhibition game was against the Goldpanners. Bo Brantingham started for the Fish and pitched five solid innings, giving up only two runs whilescattering a handful of base hits. Adyn Collins closed it out with a pair of shutout innings. Chugiak-Eagle River was outhit by the Panners, but made the most of their at bats, hitting their first two home runs of 2024 - solo shots by Louis Zulaica of Gavilan Collee, and Jacob Hayes of Azusa Pacific University. The defense played solid ball, and when good pitching is combined with good fielding then your team has a very good chance of coming out on top, which is exactly what happened. Final score: Goldpanners 2, Chinooks 3. Next game is against the Peninsula Oilers at 12:00 Saturday.
