Oilers defeat Chinooks 6-1
Tim Barto-Chinooks
Game 20 Summary
Oilers' Home Runs Take Down Chinooks
The Chinooks were back in Chugiak on Monday evening, playing the Peninsula Oilers. Skipper Tim Cole gave Jacob Hayes his first start of the season after five relief appearances, and things were going pretty well until the third inning when Oilers' centerfielder Colin Robson hit a home run off the right field foul pole. The Oilers added one run in the fourth and another in the seventh. Then, in what was an almost exact replica of his two-run shot in the third, Robson again hit a two-run home run off the right field foul pole, putting the Oilers up six to zero.
The Chinooks prevented a shutout in the bottom of the ninth, as David Broughton reached base on an error, stole second, stole third, and came home on a single by Dusty Isanogle. The Chinooks collected six hits and drew four walks during the game, but left ten runners on base. Broughton reached base safely four times via a single, a walk, and two Oilers' errors. Sam Kwapnioski reached base three times by a base hit, hit by pitch, and walk. Incredibly, Fish batters only struck out twice in their 27 outs.
Final score: Oilers 6, Chinooks 1.
The Chinooks' league record falls to 7 and 13. Their next game is Tuesday against the Anchorage Bucs at Mulcahy Stadium at 6:00 pm.
