Chinooks say goodbye to Lee Jordan with win over Bucs
Game 36 Summary
Wednesday's 4:00 game at Lee Jordan Field was the first of a doubleheader versus the league-leading Anchorage Bucs, the twin bill necessitated by a rain postponed game earlier this season. The Chinooks were looking to get the bats going again after a tough week that saw little offensive output. It was not to happen in game one, as the Fish were able to come up with only three hits against a trio of Bucs hurlers. One of the hits, though, was a fourth inning solo home run by centerfielder Jayden Hill, who also had a single in the first inning.
Chinooks pitchers Brayden Adams and Troy Lopez threw well, giving up only four runs to Anchorage with Lopez throwing three shutout innings in relief. In fact, neither team scored any runs after the fourth inning of this seventh inning game.
Final score: Bucs 4, Chinooks 1
Game 37 Summary
The second game of Wednesday's doubleheader went much better for the home team, as the Chinooks put the bat on the ball when needed, coming up with three extra base hits. Louis Zulaica and Keaton Laidley pounded out triples, while Orion Medeiros flashed the shaka after doubling in the fourth. But it wasn't just the extra base hits that brought runs home, as Laidley and Kade Smith earned runs batted in with well-timed sacrifice flies. Five different Fish scored individual runs.
Frankie Gulko and Adyn Collins teamed up to give up only two runs against the best offensive team in the league. Collins gave up a single to the first batter he faced, then set down six Bucs in a row. The win keeps Chugiak-Eagle River's postseason hopes alive.
Final score: Bucs 2, Chinooks 5
Next up is a doubleheader in Palmer on Friday against the Mat-Su Miners. First game starts at 4:00 pm Alaska time.
